June 2020 Update

Much like everyone else, we’ve really been taking each week and month as it comes. We had planned to have a different year with scaled down farm store hours but not because of the circumstances that eventually transpired. We can’t complain. We’ve been keeping busy around the farm (just the laying hens and ducks at the moment, meat chickens are coming soon) and with various other projects.

Our farm stay has not been operating and will not be available for booking until we see how conditions evolve. Check the listing here. For those that have inquired about it we thank you for you patience.

The farm store has moved to a pre-order, pre-pay model with agreed times for collection. Mimi has been keeping the freezer stocked with prepared foods such as soups, ragu and boeuf bourguignon alongside our own pastured pork and eggs. Here is what you can expect from the farm kitchen and store in the coming months:

  • The farm kitchen and store will continue to operate on a pre-order/pre-pay basis for the remainder of the year. Unfortunately we will not be offering regular store hours, only arranged collection times.
  • We will be creating a menu of options and taking orders for holiday weekends (e.g. July 4th, Labour Day, Thanksgiving). Please sign up for our newsletter here to be kept fully informed on what’s available and how to order.
  • Mimi will be looking to offer some custom baking such as small ready-to-eat meals, cakes and other baked goods. Please email her directly on mimi @ madeinghent dot com to inquire about possibilities.
  • We have some ideas about how we can create some delicious prepared and prepare-yourself meals with us providing ingredients and directions if needed. These will pop up now and again when we have the opportunity. Again, the newsletter will contain information about this.

Last, but by no means least, we have been as concerned as most people with the events of the past few weeks, the injustices all around us and the inequalities that many, many of our friends, neighbours and fellow human beings have to endure day in, day out. We’ve been seeking to help make some difference in the community around us. For some months now, when we can, we have been supplying eggs to The Ghent Food Pantry, Columbia Opportunities (Hudson) and Perfect Ten After School (Hudson). Last week we initiated a fund-raiser for Perfect Ten After School for under-served girls in Hudson. Perfect Ten helps nurture equality, respect, dignity, fairness, caring and self-esteem in and around Hudson. We are so appreciative of everyone who donated funds, the first $1,000 of which Made In Ghent matched. At this time we have helped raise over $6,500 for the organisation which is going to make a big difference helping with summer programs for the girls. It’s not too late to contribute if you would like to. A link is here.

Thank you, as ever, for your support and understanding.
